In an electrifying encounter at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, IPL 2024 witnessed one of its most remarkable matches as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) squared off. This game was nothing short of a run-fest, with a staggering total of 549 runs scored in just 40 overs.
SRH set a monumental target of 289, the highest in IPL history, only for RCB to fall short by 25 runs despite a gallant chase, finishing at 262/7. The game was filled with breathtaking shots, strategic masterstrokes, and heart-stopping moments.

RCB started their chase with unprecedented aggression, recording their highest-ever powerplay total in IPL. Openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis blazed to 79/0 in six overs, setting a solid foundation.

Despite the strong start, RCB’s innings began to unravel post the powerplay. Virat Kohli, after a fiery 42 from 20 balls, fell in the 7th over, triggering a collapse. Faf du Plessis followed soon after, leaving RCB struggling at crucial moments.
Veteran Dinesh Karthik nearly turned the game on its head with a blistering 83 from 35 balls. His innings, laden with 7 sixes, kept the hopes alive until the penultimate over. His innings came to an end in the penultimate over of the match, courtesy of a delivery from T Natrajan.
With 44 runs needed off the last over, Anuj Rawat and Vijaykumar Vyshak were the batters on crease. Rawat displayed a flurry of boundaries, striking four in the last over. However, despite his valiant effort, the hosts ultimately fell short of the target by 25 runs.
Travis Head was the standout performer, crafting a swift 102 from 41 deliveries, his innings decorated with eight sixes and nine fours. This knock was the fastest century by an SRH player in IPL history. Abhishek Sharma departed after scoring 34 off 22 deliveries failing to put the leg-side delivery of Topley over the boundary. Klaasen walked back after 67 from 31 balls. Klassen and Markram added 66 in just 27 deliveries for the third wicket. Abdul Samad’s late carnage of 37 in 10 deliveries helped SRH break their own record of the highest team total in IPL history after they posted a total of 287 for 3 in 20 overs.
