In a nail-biting IPL 2025 encounter at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) dominated Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a high-intensity run chase in Match 27. The match, characterized by explosive batting, witnessed SRH achieve a record win, with Abhishek Sharma's brilliance taking center stage.
Electing to bat, PBKS amassed 245/6 in 20 overs. Shreyas Iyer’s aggressive 82 off 36 balls, including a 22-ball fifty, anchored the innings. Openers Priyansh Arya (36 off 13) and Prabhsimran Singh (42 off 23) blazed to a 66-run stand in four overs. Marcus Stoinis’ unbeaten 34 off 11, smashing four sixes off Mohammed Shami’s final over, propelled PBKS to their season-high total. Harshal Patel shone for SRH with 4/42, while Shami’s 0/75 proved costly.

In pursuit of an intimidating 246, SRH raced to 247/2 in 18.3 overs, registering an eight-wicket victory and the second-largest IPL chase in history. Abhishek Sharma took the charge with a jaw-dropping 141 in 55 deliveries, hitting 14 fours and 10 sixes. His 40-ball century, the fifth-quickest in IPL history, shattered David Warner's SRH record (131) and earned him the Player of the Match award. Abhishek's 171-run partnership with Travis Head and 66 off 37 of Head in 12.3 overs destroyed PBKS's hopes. Heinrich Klaasen (21* off 12) and Ishan Kishan (9* off 5) put finishing touches on the chase, and Klaasen hit the winning boundary. PBKS bowlers such as Yash Thakur (0/40) and Arshdeep Singh were left shattered.
