As the countdown to IPL 2024 begins, excitement is reaching fever pitch among Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans as their beloved captain, MS Dhoni, prepares to take the field once again. With just two days left until the opening clash between CSK and RCB, anticipation is at an all-time high, especially with Dhoni’s return in a fresh avatar.

Reflecting on his journey, Dhoni, known fondly as Captain Cool, has left fans awestruck with his commitment and fitness levels. Despite turning 43 this year, he shows no signs of slowing down, sporting his trademark long locks and an aura of calmness that has inspired generations of cricketers.

Suresh Raina, the iconic ‘Chinna Thala’ of CSK, has voiced the sentiments of fans

He expresses his desire for Dhoni to continue leading the team for at least another 2-3 years. Raina’s words echo the sentiments of many, as Dhoni’s leadership has been synonymous with CSK’s success over the years. He said, “It’s important now to see how he plans for the future. He’s 42-years-old. I would love to see him play for five more years, or at least two or three more years.”

Looking ahead, Raina also weighs in on the future leadership of the team once Dhoni decides to step down. He highlights Ruturaj Gaikwad, the talented opener known for his calm and composed demeanor, as a strong contender for the role. Gaikwad’s four-year stint with CSK has earned him admiration, drawing comparisons to Dhoni’s leadership style.

Reflecting on Dhoni’s legacy, Zaheer Khan shares a heartfelt sentiment

Emphasizing Dhoni’s desire to be remembered as a good person above all else. With memories of their World Cup triumph in 2011 still fresh, Dhoni’s impact transcends cricket, leaving a lasting impression on all who have had the privilege of witnessing his greatness.

He added, “When you’re playing, switching off (from the game) is very important. Cricket is not everything. Every cricketer has to face this eventually. When you step away from the game, you may not have a lot of options. We’ve seen many athletes struggle after retiring because they gave everything to the game, and when they left it, they didn’t know what to do. In this sense, MS Dhoni understood a long time ago that he is passionate about cricket and it is an integral part of his life. But it couldn’t be everything. He keeps doing things outside of the sport. For example, his interest in bikes. He’s always researching them.”
