Indian T20I captain and Mumbai Indians’ star batter Suryakumar Yadav can be traded in the IPL pre-auction trading window.

According to an NDTV sports report, the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are interested in bringing back Suryakumar Yadav. Although KKR won the IPL 2024 under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, the franchise is reportedly offering Suryakumar to captain the team in the IPL 2025.

Suryakumar Yadav played for KKR from 2014 to 2017

Suryakumar Yadav served for KKR between 2014 and 2017. He played 60 matches for KKR, where the right-handed batter scored 684 runs with an average of 23.58 and a strike rate of 135.71. Suryakumar scored only one half-century for KKR, which was a match-winning 60 runs in 49 balls against the now-defunct franchise Rising Pune Supergiants in the IPL 2016.

After the return of Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians made him captain for the IPL 2024, as Pandya replaced the five-time IPL-winning skipper Rohit Sharma. Although there was speculation of a rift between Rohit and Hardik, it doesn’t seem true.

However, under the leadership of Pandya, the Mumbai Indians finished in the tenth or last position at the IPL 2024.

Suryakumar Yadav: Third most run-scorer for MI

Suryakumar Yadav is a key player for the Mumbai Indians, where he has served in two terms, from 2012 to 2013 and from 2018 to present. He is the third most run-scorer for the Mumbai Indians, as the right-handed batter has scored 3033 runs in 98 matches with an average of 35.26 and a strike rate of 148.09, including two centuries and 23 half-centuries.

In the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar led the Mumbai Indians in one match during the IPL 2023.

Apart from Suryakumar, multiple franchises are reportedly approaching Rohit Sharma to captain the team in the IPL 2025. In the IPL 2024, Rohit was the leading run-scorer for the Mumbai Indians, as he scored 417 runs in 14 matches, including one century and one half-century.
