Chris Gayle is third, with 2920 balls. Suryakumar became the 17th cricketer to score 4000 runs in the IPL overall and the eighth active player to reach this milestone in the league's most prestigious franchise cricket league.
Suryakumar, a 34-year-old right-handed batter from Mumbai, has had spectacular form throughout the current season. He entered the innings needing just 33 runs against Lucknow Super Giants to reach his goal. He reached the milestone when he struck a boundary off Avesh Khan in the 13th over. Surya has scored so far 4 fours and 2 sixes, with his first six of the night also being his historic 150th six in IPL history. If Suryakumar Yadav gets a minimum of 54 in this match, he will surpass Kieron Pollard's 3412 runs and become the second-highest run scorer for the Mumbai Indians in IPL history. Currently, Rohit Sharma is first with 5698 runs from 221 matches, including 2 hundreds and 37 fifties, and a career with MI. Surya too has played with Kolkata Knight Riders and so far has become one of the MI greats due to the eye-catching batting and dominance of matches from previous IPL seasons.
There are times when success comes quickly, and his success has indeed come quickly over time. For sure, Surya's feats say that none of his success is by coincidence - this is a combination of the player's determination, creativity, and a strong work ethic, which comes through their commitment and a lot of hard work. There will be many matches to play yet in this season, and there will be even more records that will fall, and Surya will continue to be recognized in IPL history.
