The present Indian T20I captain, 33-year-old Suryakumar Yadav, is still hopeful for his comeback in Test cricket.
Suryakumar, whose last first-class cricket experience was during the Duleep Trophy in July 2023, has played only one Test during the Australia tour of India in 2022/23. On his Test debut, Suryakumar scored only eight runs.
Suryakumar will now participate in the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament in Tamil Nadu to get good practice for the upcoming domestic red-ball tournaments. Although he was initially not in the young Mumbai squad for the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament, he is ready for the second half of the competition.
Suryakumar Yadav said, as reported by the Times of India, "I want to play for India in all three formats. Playing in Buchi Babu will give me good practice for the red-ball tournaments this season."
Under Sarfaraz Khan’s leadership, Suryakumar is likely to participate in the match against Jammu and Kashmir, starting August 27.
Suryakumar Yadav wasn't in the recent ODI squad
Recently, Suryakumar successfully led the Indian team in a three-match bilateral T20I series against the hosts Sri Lanka, where India won the series by 3-0.
However, the right-handed hard-hitting batter, Suryakumar, was not included in the three-match bilateral ODI series against the hosts Sri Lanka.
While his ODI place isn’t confident enough, Suryakumar is still hopeful to serve for the Indian national cricket team in all three formats.
Suryakumar Yadav has a strong first-class career
In his first-class career, Suryakumar has scored 5628 runs in 82 Tests with an average of 43.62. The right-handed batter has hit 14 centuries and 29 half-centuries in his first-class career, with the highest score of 200 runs.
After the Buchi Babu tournament, the Indian domestic cricket season will start with the Duleep Trophy, where the national selectors will pick four teams. Without a doubt, Suryakumar will surely want to participate in the Duleep Trophy before the new Ranji Trophy season.
