The Indian cricket team has just won the T20I series against Australia, with a game to go.

The series was a well-fought one, with the games running close on each occasion.

There was a last-over finish and relatively low score defended in the two games so far.

Like these two games, India and Australia have faced off on numerous occasions, and there have been some memorable contests.

Let us now look at some of the memorable contests between the two sides.

India Vs. Australia, Melbourne 2008, Australia won by nine-wickets:

India’s first T20I in Australia turned out to be a dismal performance.

In the early days of T20 cricket, the format’s approach was still not figured out, as teams considered it a smaller form of the fifty-over game.

Due to other controversies in the series, the defeat didn’t stand out much, barring a very aggressive field setting to Ishant Sharma, who walked in last.

India chose to bat, were ripped apart early.

Barring Irfan Pathan, nobody managed to get into double digits.

India was bowled out for 74, and the target was chased quickly by Australia.

They completed the chase with nine wickets and a little less than nine overs to spare.

The win is Australia’s first T20 win over India.

India Vs. Australia, Adelaide, 1st T20, 2016, India won by 37 runs:

Losing the ODI series, India came into the T20 series with a string of changes.

Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, and Ashish Nehra came back into the Indian side, while Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya made their T20I debuts.

The series was crucial in building the core for the T20 world cup held a couple of months later.

Australia also made few changes, with Travis Head making his debut and Shaun Tait returning after a break.

Australia elected to field first as most would in a T20I.

Put into bat, Rohit Sharma got the side off to a good start as Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina were involved in a long partnership followed by a cameo from MS Dhoni.

Virat Kohli made 90 in his first T20 of 2016, which became one of the best in his career.

In response, Australia got off to a good start, and the debutant Hardik Pandya made things more comfortable with a poor and nervous first over.

Australia batted first and got to 197.

Shane Watson made 124 and was unbeaten, as he carried the batting line-up.

The second-highest scorer in the side was Travis Head, with 26.

In response, India got off to a beautiful start, with Dhawan scoring 26 off just nine.

Rohit Sharma made a half-century as he was involved in a crucial partnership with Virat Kohli.

After the fifties in the first two T20s, Kohli continued his form, and despite the loss of Rohit Sharma, Kohli looked to take India home on his own.

Virat Kohli was out, against the run of play, with the innings going well to Cameron Boyce in the 15th over.

Suresh Raina was going well and was joined by Yuvraj Singh, who came in to bat for the first time.

Raina found the boundary well, keeping the asking rate at a manageable level, but Yuvraj Singh showed some rustiness as he struggled to rotate strike.

His innings may have repurchased memories of the 2014 T20 World Cup Final.

He was five of nine going into the final over as India managed just five runs in the 19th.

Seventeen were required off the final over, bowled by Tye.

Raina made 41 off 22, but it was Yuvraj Singh on strike.

Struggling throughout the innings, Yuvraj Singh came to life in the final over as he hit a four and six off the first two balls.

He found his touch with those two shots, and a boundary off the last ball from Raina sealed the game for India.

The two had a good partnership as Raina made 49 and India completed the whitewash.

India Vs. Australia, 1st T20I, 2018, Australia won by four runs:

India’s tour of Australia started with an interesting T20I series consisting of three games.

Put into bat, Australia got off to a steady start and was given a boost through Glenn Maxwell.

Glenn Maxwell hit four sixes during his 46 and propelled the score as the innings was shortened to 17 overs.

Australia finished with 158 in seventeen overs, and the target was adjusted to 174.

In response, India got off to a decent start, thanks to Dhawan.

Dhawan led the way as Rahul, Rohit, and Kohli didn’t add much to the scoreboard.

With less support, the asking rate kept rising despite Dhawan’s effort.

Dhawan was dismissed in the twelfth over as Zampa put the breaks on India with two wickets and an economical spell.

Pant and Karthik kept India in the hunt and took Tye for twenty-five runs in the fourteenth over to keep India in the game.

The game was in balance, although Pant was dismissed, and India needed thirteen off the final over.

India Vs. Australia, 3rd T20I, 2018:

The third T20 of the series started with Australia leading the series 1-0.

The second match was washed out, and Australia chose to bat in the third.

Contributions from the entire batting line-up allowed Australia to get to 164.

Most members of the batting line-up managed to play a decent role, with Finch scoring 33.

Krunal Pandya was impressed with his bowling, as he took four wickets to put the brakes on Australia.

The chase looked a straightforward one, but Australia’s nice fight ensured it went till the last over.

Rohit and Dhawan’s excellent opening partnership put India far ahead, but a wicket and few silent overs put the game in the balance.

The openers were out in quick succession after the opening partnership, and Rahul shortly after, while Pant was dismissed for a duck.

Virat Kohli made a steady half-century but needed some support to complete the chase.

The support was given by Dinesh Karthik, who has looked to establish his role as a finisher.

After a mini-collapse, the two batsmen ensured the rate didn’t get out of hand, and the chase was completed with two balls to spare.

The chase allowed India to level the series, and it kicked off an exciting tour.
