The 15th match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 took place between Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas. Bangladesh won the nail-biting thriller of Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh match by 2 wickets.
Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl. Put into bat first, Sri Lanka openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis got off to a steady start as well. They added 21 runs in 2.3 overs before Taskin Ahmed handed over the first breakthrough after getting hit for two back-to-back boundaries. He bowled a length delivery and Mendis got an inside edge and the ball hit the stumps for 10 off 8.
His dismissal brought Kamindu Mendis in the middle and with Pathum Nissanka he started to build the partnership. However, Nissanka smashed four boundaries in the 5th over off Shakib Al Hasan and their quick scoring helped Bangladesh post 48 runs in 5 overs as well. Mustafizur Rahman came into the attack in the final over of the powerplay and struck on the very first ball.
It was a full delivery and Kamindu went for the drive but got out after giving an easy catch over mid-off as well. Their economical spell didn’t allow Sri Lanka batters to open their hands. Mustafizur struck again to remove in-form Nissanka on 47 in the 9th over. On the other hand, Rishad Hossain who came to bowl in the 15th over picked up two wickets and reduced Sri Lanka to 103 for 5 as well.

However, picking up wickets at regular intervals and their economical spells restricted Sri Lanka to a below-par score of 124 for 9 in 20 overs as well. Mustafizur and Rishad Hossain claimed 3 wickets each as well.
While chasing, Bangladesh had the worst possible start as Tanzid Hasan (3) and Soumya Sarkar (0) got out for single-digit scores. Najmul Hossain Shanto too got out for a mere 7. However, Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy started to steady the ship after the initial hiccups. They added 63 runs before Hasaranga trapped Towhid before the stumps.
He scored a quick 40 off 20 with a boundary and 4 sixes as well. Bangladesh lost 4 more wickets in between. However, Mahmudullah played the anchor’s role at the end and sealed the deal with 2 wickets and 1 over in hand. He remained unbeaten on 16 off 13. Nuwan Thushara picked up 4 wickets for 18 runs in his 4 overs.
After the win, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh captain said: “Happy with the way everyone played. Run chase wasn’t easy but we didn’t bat well to be honest. Pitch ws pretty good. Litton showed his skill today. Hridoy the way he played that over it helped us. Happy for the crowd and I hope they will come again and suppor us.”
