The two cricketing powerhouses, Australia and England, faced off in the 17th match at Kensington Oval in Barbados. Defending champions England appeared off-color in their opening match against Scotland, as the bowling unit failed to put in a collective effort in the rain-soaked game. Australia, meanwhile, is relaxed, according to captain Mitch Marsh, following a straightforward victory over Oman a few days earlier.

England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bowl first against Australia in Barbados. They chose to remain unchanged for the big game, while Australia fielded Pat Cummins in place of Nathan Ellis.

Warner & Head on the rampage!

Australian openers David Warner and Travis Head got off to a great start in the ongoing group-stage match against England, going all guns blazing on the powerplay. Warner scored 39 runs off only 16 balls during the powerplay, hammering the English bowlers. Warner attacked Mark Wood in the fourth over of the match, smashing him for three sixes and one four.

In a World Cup where shot-making proved difficult, Warner’s assault on Wood was unexpected. The departing opener took command of the powerplay alongside Travis Head, who scored 34 off 18 balls himself.

The pair scored 70 runs for the first wicket in just 5 overs, propelling Australia to victory in Barbados. This has helped Australia to mark the benchmark as the Highest Powerplay score of this T20 World Cup, 74/2. This would give a boost to Ausies for their upcoming matches.

Moeen and Archer strike after Australia’s rapid start

Both openers, Travis Head and David Warner, landed big hits early on, and Warner in particular was in a punishing mood. Then came relief for England, as Moeen Ali chose David Warner. The ball was kept low while Warner attempted to cut it and got bowled. The first indication is that the surface is a little slower. Jofra Archer bowls dangerous Travis Head in the next over.

The batter charged down and attempted to drive the ball off-side, but missed completely because his middle stump was dislaunched. The wicket once again indicates that if bowlers are using cutters, the surface is gripping slightly.

Chris Jordan is on a roll!

With his 4-overs spell of 2 wickets, Chris Jordan has reached the milestone of 100 wickets in T20I’s for the England team. Jordan is just a few wickets behind Adil Rashid with 111 wickets.
