The 32nd match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is currently taking place between New Zealand vs Uganda at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba in Trinidad on Jun 14, 08:30 PM local. New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first. Tim Southee claimed three wickets and restricted the opponent to a below-par total.
Put into bat first, Uganda had the worst possible start. Their openers Ronak Patel and Simon Ssesazi couldn’t do much as they got out for a mere 1 and 0 runs respectively, courtesy of Santner and Boult’s early strikes. However, Tim Southee then dismissed Alpesh Ramjani for a 6-ball duck. On the other hand, Robinson Obuya was removed by Trent Boult for a golden duck and they were reduced to 10 for 4 after 6.5 overs.
K Waiswa tried to steady the ship in the middle but could not contribute much with the bat. Also, he didn’t get any support from the other end. NO batter could reach the double-digit, courtesy of a stunning bowling effort from New Zealand batters.

This was another disappointing batting performance from Uganda as they haven’t played much against quality pace and swing bowling before and Boult and Southee were exceptional in the game. Meanwhile, Santner bowled beautifully in the middle overs whereas Ferguson also put them under pressure with his pace. The Uganda batters failed to rotate strikes regularly too and that cost them as well.
While Tim Southee claimed 3 wickets while giving away only 4 runs, Boult, Santner and Rachin Ravindra picked up 2 wickets each and bowled them out for 40 runs in 18.4 overs. However, Uganda registered the second-most lowest team totals in the Men’s T20 World Cup today whereas Tim Southee also registered the most economical 4-over spells in the Men’s T20 World Cup as well.
Tim Southee said after the first inning: It has been a tricky surface, as a bowling unit we used it tonight. Tough conditions, in T20s we are used to big totals. Feel fresh and feel good. Will be nice (to get a win.)
