The 38th match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is currently taking place between Sri Lanka vs Netherlands at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet in St Lucia on Jun 16, 08:30 PM local. Netherlands won the toss and opted to bowl first. Kusal Mendis, Kusal Mendis and Mathews scored quick runs and helped them post a decent total of 201 for 6 in 20 overs.

Kusal Mendis shines with the bat

Put into bat first, Sri Lanka had a steady start. Their opener Pathum Nissanka got out for a 2-ball duck. However, Kusal Mendis and Kamindu Mendis tried to steady the ship. However, the latter got out for 17 runs as van Meekeren dismissed him as well. However, Dhananjaya de Silva joined Kushal in the middle and they added 45 runs before Aryan Dutt removed Mendis for 46 runs as well.

HasarangaMathews score a quickfire knocks

Soon, Asalanka came in the middle and steadied the ship with de Silva and they added another quick 39 runs as well. Dhananjaya de Silva got out after scoring 34 whereas Mathews smashed a quickfire 30 off 15 with a four and 2 sixes.

Meanwhile, W Hasaranga smashed another quickfire knock of 20 off 6 with a four and 2 sixes. Both Mathews and W Hasaranga remained unbeaten and they posted a huge total of 201 for 6 in 20 overs. Logan van Beek claimed 2 wickets for his side.

Engelbrecht said after the first innings: “Looks like a really good pitch. There are learnings from the way they constructed their innings. There are runs to be had in the back end. It’s going to be tough (talking about the target) but you never know in T20 cricket.”
