The Super Eight match of Group 1 of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is currently occurring between Afghanistan vs Bangladesh at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown in St Vincent on Jun 24, 08:30 PM local. Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat first. Rishad Hossain claimed 3 wickets and helped Bangladesh restrict the opponent to a below-par total.
Batting first, Afghanistan had a slow start as in-form Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran couldn’t score quickly as they managed only 59 runs in 10.1 overs. Bangladesh bowlers kept the pressure on the batters as they didn’t let them open their arms.
Rishad Hossain drew the first blood as Ibrahim Zadran’s struggling 18-ball 29 knock came to an end when Tanzim Hasan Sakib grabbed the catch and sent him in. Azmatullah Omarzai also failed to contribute much as he could only manage 10 runs.

In-form Rahmanullah Gurbaz failed to step up and score quickly. He managed 43 runs off 55 balls with 3 fours and a six only. Apart from him, their middle order couldn’t fire as they got out on single-digit scores. However, captain Rashid Khan tried his best to score quickly towards the end of the innings.
He smashed 3 sixes and the first one came against Taskin Ahmed in the 18th over. It was a slower short-of-length ball outside off and Rashid swept it over cow corner for a maximum. The next two sixes came in the final over off Tanzim Hasan Sakib who bowled a fuller length delivery outside off and Rashid Khan smashed it over deep extra cover for a maximum.
The next ball was bowled outside the off stump and Rashid Khan hit it over cow corner for a 98m maximum as well. But lack of support from the other end saw their innings end at 115 runs for 5 in their allotted 20 overs as well. Rishad Hossain claimed 3 wickets for Bangladesh.
However, Rishad Hossain claimed the most wickets (14) in a T20 World Cup edition for Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Bangladesh need to reach the target in 12.1 overs to qualify for the semi-final or they can take up to 12.4 if they hit a six once the scores are tied as well. On the other hand, a win or no result will help Afghanistan.
