The Super Eight match of Group 2 of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is currently occurring between England vs West Indies at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet in St Lucia on Jun 19, 08:30 PM local. England won the toss and opted to bowl first. Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford shone with the bat and helped his side post a decent total.
Put into bat first, the West Indies had a flying start as their openers Brandon King and J Charles started playing aggressively since the beginning. Both set the platform and added 94 runs within 11.1 overs before the latter got out for 38. However, Nicholas Pooran joined Charles in the middle and they started resurrecting the innings.

Brandon King retired hurt at 23 whereas Pooran and Rovman Powell added more 43 runs. However, Livingstone put a break on Rovman Powell’s free-flowing scores as he dismissed him for 36 off 17. He also smashed 5 sixes as well. Soon Pooran got out for 36 and Adil Rashid removed dangerous Andre Russell for a mere 1-run as well.
However, it was Sherfane Rutherford who took on every bowler and smashed shots in every corner with ease. He scored a quickfire 28 off 15 balls as well despite England spinners did well in the middle overs. He also hit a boundary and 2 sixes. Their onslaught saw them posting a decent total of 180 on the board after their allotted 20 overs.
Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali and Livingstone all picked up one wicket each. However, this was the second-highest T20I total without an individual 50-plus score for West Indies as well.
Adil Rashid said after the first innings: “We bowled exceptionally well as a unit. The seamers, spinners, everyone bowled well. 180 is a par score on this wicket, we’ll be pleased with that. Just wanted to express myself and assess the pitch. (On bowling with a slip) You get a sense after seeing how they are going to bat. So wanted to add and take it out just to play some mind games with them.”
