Thursday night saw yet another gripping match that made history and broke hearts, proving that the T20 World Cup 2022 is living up to the hype. Namibia was eliminated from the World Cup after falling 7 runs short of UAE’s first World Cup victory. At the conclusion of Match 10 of the Group A match at the T20 World Cup 2022, David Weise burst into tears. He brought Namibia so close to a remarkable victory that they lost by 7 runs in a last-over thriller and were eliminated from the tournament. In contrast, UAE made history by winning their first T20 World Cup match.
UAE decided to bat first after winning the toss, but they didn’t really want to put up a big score. The rate of runs scored was very slow, and Basil Hameed and C Rizwan would not have reached 148/3 in 20 overs if they hadn’t played a blinder.
During the powerplay, they lost three wickets. They continued to lose wickets, even in the middle overs.Till Weise and Ruben Trumpelmann reached the crease, the chase never started. Their power hitting brought Namibia back into the game, scoring 70 runs for the eighth wicket. However, UAE bowlers Muhammad Waseem and Zahoor Khan held their nerve to eventually defend the target, which broke the Namibian hearts.
Namibia has been eliminated as a result of this defeat, but Netherlands has advanced as the second team from Group A. They are now in the same group as India (Group 2 of the Super 12 stage) and will play Rohit Sharma and co., on October 27. With their victory over the Netherlands earlier today, Sri Lanka has topped Group A in the qualifiers and will join Australia, England, Afghanistan, and New Zealand in their Super 12 stage group. The other teams they will face are South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and one team from Group B.
