In a day marred by constant rain interruptions, the first abandoned game of the T20 World Cup 2024 has been recorded. Only 10 overs of play were possible over five hours, with multiple rain delays disrupting the action.
Scotland’s openers put up an impressive 90 runs in their allotted 10 overs, setting up an intriguing chase for England with a revised target of 109 off 10 overs. However, the persistent rain had the final word, resulting in both teams sharing a point each.
At 51 for no loss in 6.2 overs, the rain halted play, truncating the game. When play resumed, Moeen Ali’s economical over was followed by Adil Rashid’s mixed bag, conceding 18 in his first but finishing strong in the last.
Scotland managed to post a challenging total of 90 in their 10 overs. England, on the other hand, will be regretting Mark Wood’s no-ball. Not only did it increase the DLS adjustment, but it also allowed the potent Munsey-Rashid matchup. With the wicket playing a bit two-paced and keeping low, the defending champions will need to muster all their skills to reach the target of 109.
With a revised target of 109, England faces an uphill battle, needing almost 11 runs per over. Scotland’s openers, George Munsey and Michael Jones, added 39 runs off the final 22 balls, setting a healthy total. Jones remained unbeaten on 45 from 30 balls, while Munsey contributed 41 from 31. England will need a mighty effort to chase down this target against their neighbors.
Scotland’s top-order partnerships in T20 World Cups have been impressive:
This performance adds another feather to their cap, as Jones and Munsey’s unbeaten stand of 90 is now one of their highest partnerships in T20 World Cups.
