The 23rd match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was supposed to take place between Sri Lanka vs Nepal at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill in Florida on Jun 11, 07:30 PM local. However, persistent rain had the last laugh as the match was abandoned without a toss. Both teams got a point each from this match as well.
However, the rain was predicted for the game beforehand. This washout match will hurt Sri Lanka the most as their Super Eight qualification chances are uncertain now. They will need to win their final match now against the Netherlands as well.

However, their destiny is not in their hands now as with the win, they would require Bangladesh to lose to both Nepal and the Netherlands as well. As far as the qualification scenario for Nepal is concerned, they will have to beat both South Africa and Bangladesh and hope that the Netherlands lose their next two matches as well.
However, three more matches will be played in Florida and things don’t look promising for them either. Rain and thunderstorms are predicted for the entire week in Florida as well. USA will now host Ireland on Friday at this venue and then the India vs Canada match will be played here on the 15th and Pakistan vs Ireland on the 16th as well. Though the road ahead for both these teams looks tough, it will be interesting to see how things unfold.
Notably, with this washout, South Africa become the first team to qualify for the Super 8 stage as well. they are topping the group with three wins in three games so far. They have defeated Sri Lanka, Netherlands and Bangladesh in their first three games and will take on Nepal on 14th June as well. While they have already qualified, they will try to finish the league stage being unbeaten as well.
