The 34th match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 will be played between Namibia vs England at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound in Antigua on June 15. However, the toss was delayed due to a wet outfield. Namibia have won the toss and have opted to field. Only one bowler can bowl three overs.

There will be three overs of powerplay. Three bowlers can bowl a maximum of three overs.

T20 World Cup 2024, Namibia vs England: Who said what at the toss?

Buttler: It’s been frustrating, but delighted to get a game on. We would have done the same. We have two changes. Mark Wood and Will Jacks miss out. Sam Curran and Chris Jordan come in. We need to adapt to the conditions. That’s why we have made the changes. Every team is dangerous, especially in these shortened games.

Erasmus: We are gonna have a bowl. Pretty easy one in a shortened game, try to know what the opposition have on the board. We’ve got one change. Coetzee comes in. Gotta compete.

Playing XIs:

Namibia (Playing XI): Nikolaas Davin, Michael van Lingen, Jan Frylinck, JP Kotze, Gerhard Erasmus(c), JJ Smit, David Wiese, Zane Green(w), Ruben Trumpelmann, Bernard Scholtz, Jack Brassell

England (Playing XI): Philip Salt, Jos Buttler(w/c), Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Reece Topley

Pitch Inspection Report

15:20 Local Time, 19:20 GMT, 00:50 IST: Wow, we have an update! If there’s no further rain, toss will take place at 15:40 Local Time | Ball 1 at 16:00 and it’ll be a 11-overs-per-side encounter. Now, it’s 10 overs per side clash.

15:09 Local Time, 19:09 GMT, 00:39 IST: The covers are being removed now. The umpires have been checking things out for five minutes. They’ve even had a small word with Buttler and, later, Rashid. There’ll be an update at 16:00 Local Time. 4:46pm local is the latest point at which a five-over game can begin.

13:49 Local Time, 17:49 GMT, 23:19 IST: The cut-off time for a 5-over match is 16:46 Local Time. And, it is still raining pretty heavily! The rain has eased a touch, but there is so much standing water on the outfield. That is the concern for England, for whom the clock is most definitely ticking now.

12:50 Local Time, 16:50 GMT, 22:20 IST: The showers have been on and off today. Nitin Menon, the reserve umpire, makes his out to the middle with a closed umbrella. That’s a good sign. Now, umpires Adrian Holdstock and Langton Rusere will have an inspection.

12:43 Local Time, 16:43 GMT, 22:13 IST: Uh-oh, it’s raining heavily now! We have a buffer of 90 minutes, will start to lose overs after 14:30 Local Time. “We’ve had an unbelievably heavy downpour which has left some puddles,” says Atherton.

“What will happen if it is a washout?” — Scotland will progress to Super 8 and England will be eliminated.

Pitch Report

Michael Atherton and Samuel Badree: “Same pitch that was used for the England-Oman game. We haven’t had that strong breeze today. Dimensions are the same – 59m and 69m square, 75m down the ground. This was a good cricket pitch – it offered pace and bounce for the quick bowlers and turn for the spinners. Not a blade of grass on this surface. Once again, Adil Rashid is going to be a difficult proposition. He is going to enjoy this surface.”

England’s Super 8 Chances

A record win against Oman has, to a great extent, put England’s fate back in their hands. As long as group toppers Australia can manage to stay unbeaten, for their own good, England’s massive NRR jump – from -1.8 before the match to +3.08 – has ensured they also only need a win against an already-eliminated Namibia to make it through to Super 8s.

England’s NRR currently is well above second-placed Scotland’s 2.16, and they seek only a W to progress unless, the following day, the neighbours can conjure up some magic to add another chapter to this World Cup of early upsets.
