The match number 7 of the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup saw, two associate nations take on each other. In the game which was played in Dallas Texas, it was debutant Nepal taking on the spirited Netherlands team. The game was full off ups and downs and in the end it was Netherlands who thrived over the Nepal team by six wickets. Let us look into some of the moments involved in the game;

Tim Pringle and Logan van Beek hamper Nepal’s winning chances

Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards won the toss and chose to field first, a decision that paid off as Nepal lost both openers during the powerplay. Anil Sah struggled to score, departing with just 11 runs. Captain Rohit Paudel attempted to stabilize the innings with small partnerships, but the middle-order batsmen Kushal Malla, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Sompal Kami fell cheaply. Paudel stood out with 35 runs off 37 balls, including five boundaries. Tim Pringle (3/20) and Logan van Beek (3/18) were instrumental in dismantling Nepal, who were bowled out for a below-par 106 runs in 19.2 overs.

Netherlands win their first game

In the chase, Edwards and his team had a manageable target ahead, and a single strong partnership could secure the victory. Nepal started well by dismissing Michael Levitt in the second over. Max O’Dowd played a brilliant innings, scoring 54 off 48 balls to keep the Netherlands in a comfortable position. Despite some mid-innings jitters due to quick wickets, O’Dowd and Bas de Leede ensured a victory. Sompal Kami, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Abinash Bohara each took a wicket, but Paudel and his team couldn’t defend their low total. The Netherlands finished at 109/4, winning by six wickets with eight balls to spare.

Max O’ Dowd was the game changer for Nepal

After having a poor World Cup 2023 campaign, O’Dowd really looked into the league of his own with some terrific stroke playing. There is initially a time in the game when the Nepal bowlers were all over Netherlands opener. They even accounted for the wicket of opener Michael Levitt and pushed Netherlands on the back foot. But then it was O’Dowd who played a brilliant knock and guided his team over the line with a brilliant innings of 54 runs including four boundaries and one mighty six.
