Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Oman faced early setbacks with the dismissals of opener Naseem Khushi and captain Aqib Ilyas within the powerplay. Khushi was caught by Mark Watt off Chris Sole in the third over, while Ilyas, after hitting a few boundaries and a six from just five deliveries, was trapped LBW by Scotland’s Safyaan Sharif. Despite these early losses, Oman managed to score 53 runs by the end of the powerplay.
Scotland’s left-arm spinner Mark Watt played a crucial role in taking a couple of Oman wickets during the middle overs, including a runout that dismissed Khalid Kail. Just a few overs before Kail’s departure, Watt deceived Zeeshan Maqsood with extra bounce, reducing Oman to 71-4 in 8.5 overs.
Amidst a flurry of top-order wickets in the early stages, opening batter Pratik Athvale stabilized Oman’s shaky batting with a composed half-century. The 27-year-old formed a cautious 43-run partnership with Ayaan Khan for the fifth wicket, helping his team surpass the 100-run mark. Athvale was eventually caught at deep midwicket off Chris Greaves’ bowling, having scored 54 runs off 40 balls. Meanwhile, Ayaan Khan remained unbeaten on 41, hitting a few boundaries in the final overs to guide Oman to a competitive total of 150-7.
Chasing a target of 151, Scotland’s opener George Munsey aggressively attacked Oman’s bowlers from the start, hitting four sixes and a couple of boundaries in his rapid 20-ball 41. After his opening partner Michael Jones was dismissed by Bilal Khan in the third over, Munsey partnered with number three batter Brandon McMullen, adding 65 runs in under five overs.
Munsey’s explosive start propelled Scotland to a 50-run powerplay. However, he was dismissed by Mehran Khan, and soon after, Scotland captain Richie Berrington was bowled by his counterpart Aqib Ilyas. Despite these quick wickets, leaving Scotland at 110-3 midway through the innings, Brandon McMullen sped to a brilliant half-century, remaining unbeaten on 61 from just 31 balls. The young all-rounder hit nine boundaries and two sixes, and delivered the winning blow as Scotland achieved victory in just 13.1 overs with seven wickets in hand.
