England’s T20 World Cup title defence has become uncertain initially as they initially lost to Australia after their first game against Scotland ended with no result. However, they registered a comfortable win over Oman, where they reached their target of 48 in just 19 balls and kept the hope alive for their Super 8s chances.

What do England need to do to qualify?

However, the victory margin over Oman means England don’t have to worry about net run-rate knocking them out of the T20 World Cup as well. It increased from -1.80 to +3.08, and now they are above Scotland’s +2.164, if the teams end up earning five points, England will almost certainly qualify via net run-rate.

However, a win over Namibia in Antigua on Saturday will certify for England to reach the next stage – provided Scotland are beaten by already-qualified Australia in St Lucia as well.

However, Namibia can still cause an upset whereas the weather could also play a key role, as a washout in Antigua or St Lucia could pose a threat to England as well. Moreover, Australia can now knock England out by losing to Scotland, which seems impossible considering the potential repercussions as well.

Jos Buttler remains optimistic of winning against Namibia

Meanwhile, England captain Jos Buttler recently opened up on Hazlewood’s comments regarding knocking England out and he stated that there’s nothing he can do about such remarks as well.

“Been around long enough to know that people make comments. We know what’s going on in the dressing room. We have another huge match to come. We can only control what we do, all focus is on that,” Buttler said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“The tone was set very well by the bowlers by picking up those early wickets and restricting them to that total. We’ve got another big game in two days. I thought they bowled brilliantly. There was some extra bounce, thought they bowled really good lines and lengths. There was some spin, don’t think any of us expected the surface to play like it did. Adil bowled exceptionally well. The message was to be ultra-positive,” Buttler concluded.
