13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed the fastest hundred by an Indian in U-19 Tests, achieving the feat against the Australia U-19 team at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday. Vaibhav, who plays for Bihar, scored his century in just 58 balls in his maiden red-ball match for the India U-19 side as well.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi makes headlines with his knock

Vaibhav Suryavanshi's 58-ball century is only behind former England all-rounder Moeen Ali, who smashed a 56-ball hundred for England U-19 in 2005. Vaibhav hit 14 boundaries and 4 sixes in his knock. However, he was run out when batting on 104 in just 62 balls as India gave a fitting response to Australia's first innings total of 293. Notably, his journey in cricket started at the age of nine, with early coaching from his father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi as well.

However, Vaibhav's batting style made headlines and also has drawn comparisons to Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan, with his bat swing and ability to play shots with both feet off the ground as well. He hit the square drive, a pull over the deep mid-wicket, and a cover drive too, showing his versatility and skill.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi surpasses Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh's record

Notably, he stole the limelight when he made his debut for Bihar in the Ranji Trophy at the age of 12, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh to become the youngest debutants in the domestic first-class tournament. He scored 31 runs over two first-class matches - against Mumbai and Chattisgarh in 2024 as well.

Before his Ranji Trophy debut, Vaibhav Suryavanshi had already made headlines in age-group cricket. He also played for the India B U-19 side in a Quadrangular Under-19 series, where he smashed 177 runs in six innings, including two half-centuries as well. He also did well in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, ending as the eighth-best run scorer with 393 runs from five matches and an average of 78.60 as well.
