Virat Kohli is a masterful batter known for his consistency, elegant stroke play, and match-winning abilities. Excelling across formats, he thrives under pressure and anchors innings with remarkable precision and skill. There are very few batting records which the legendary batter had not achieved in illustrious cricketing career.
One more star to his decorated career was added when, Virat Kohli achieved the milestone of 13,000 runs in T20 cricket during Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL 2025 match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday. The 36-year-old reached the landmark upon scoring his 17th run in the innings. Kohli is the first Indian to cross the 13,000-run mark in T20s and only the fifth player globally to accomplish this remarkable feat.
Virat Kohli reached the 13,000-run milestone in his 386th T20 innings, making him the second-fastest batter to do so, behind West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who achieved it in 381 innings. Kohli surpassed England’s Alex Hales by nearly 90 innings to claim the second spot. During IPL 2024, he also crossed 12,000 T20 runs in just 360 innings, again second only to Gayle. Among Indian players, Rohit Sharma follows Kohli with 11,851 T20 runs in 438 innings.

The former India skipper also holds the record for the most T20 centuries by an Indian, with nine to his name—eight of them scored in the IPL. He crossed the 10,000-run milestone during the 2021 IPL season, reaching the landmark in 299 innings, making him the third-fastest batter to do so after Babar Azam and Chris Gayle. More than 8,000 of Kohli’s T20 runs have come in the IPL, where the Royal Challengers Bengaluru icon remains at the top of the run charts.
The talismanic India batter made his T20 debut on April 3, 2007, representing Delhi against Himachal Pradesh in the Inter-State Twenty-20 Tournament, which was later renamed the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He scored 35 runs in that match.
