Former Indian captain Virat Kohli achieved another record during the first innings of the India vs Pakistan match in Group A of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He put his name on the top of the list of most ODI catches by Indian fielders (without considering the wicketkeepers).
On Sunday (February 23), Dubai International Cricket Stadium hosted the India vs Pakistan group-stage match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. It was a crucial match for both teams, and Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan chose to bat first after winning the toss.
Although Pakistan had a good start, Indian bowlers were very disciplined along with the quality supporting fielders. While the boundaries were dry for Pakistan, their running between wickets wasn't working smoothly, as the Indian bowlers were never out of the game in that innings. After the tough middle overs, Pakistan lost their wickets regularly in the end quarter of the innings.

Kohli grabbed his first catch of the match during Naseem Shah's dismissal. The lower-order batter added a valuable 14 runs off 16 balls before Kuldeep Yadav took his wicket as Kohli took a good low catch by running well from long on. It was his 157th ODI catch, which put him on top of the list of the most ODI catches by an Indian, as he surpassed former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, who previously held the record with 156 ODI catches. Kohli took one more catch in that innings to end Pakistan's innings with Khushdil Shah's dismissal. With that catch, Kohli recorded 158 catches in his ODI career.
