Fans attending the WPL 2024 match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Giants (GG) at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru were left disappointed as ground staff confiscated Mumbai Indians flags from several spectators during the game.
A video shared online by a user, X, shed light on the incident, capturing a staff member removing Mumbai Indians flags from fans, adding to the frustration of the franchise’s supporters.
Despite the unfortunate occurrence, the match witnessed a significant turnout, with spectators eagerly anticipating the clash between MI and GG. Mumbai Indians delivered a commanding performance, securing a convincing 5-wicket victory over the Giants, extending their winning streak in the tournament.
Opting to bat first after losing the toss, Gujarat Giants struggled to find their footing, managing to score 126/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Despite a valiant effort from tailenders Kathryn Bryce (25) and Tanuja Kanwar (28), the team faced a disappointing outcome. Mumbai Indians’ bowlers, led by Amelia Kerr (4/17) and Shabnim Ismail (3/18), excelled with the ball, restricting the Giants’ batting lineup.
Mumbai Indians all-rounder Amelia Kerr added, “Amazing franchise to play for, amazing group of people to play with.”
“When you’re bowling later on in the innings, sometimes you can get hit or pick up wickets. It’s about picking the conditions, different variations, they managed to come out all right, and so, just managed to pick up some wickets at the end. The way Shabs (Ismail) started us off, that helped us stay on top.”

The White Ferns all-rounder said, “Amazing franchise to play for, amazing group of people to play with. That’s what I enjoy the most here. There’s some match-winners, and we’re fortunate to have so many of them. Nice to see different people step up different times.”
In pursuit of the target, Mumbai Indians’ captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, anchored the innings superbly with an unbeaten 46*(41), guiding her team to victory with a six in the penultimate over. Amelia Kerr’s all-around performance, including a crucial knock of 31(25) in the chase, earned her the Player of the Match accolade.
Looking ahead, Mumbai Indians are set to take on UP Warriorz in their next encounter on Wednesday, February 28, at the same venue.
