Star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has officially rejoined the Mumbai Indians camp ahead of their IPL 2025 clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The ace fast bowler linked up with the squad on Saturday, April 5, after receiving the green light from the BCCI’s Center of Excellence (COE). A day later, he hit the ground running during MI’s practice session, where he looked sharp in a rhythm.
This was Bumrah's first full-pitched bowling spell after the injury early this year when India toured Australia. Mumbai Indians had posted a net clip, which soon went viral on the web. There, Bumrah bowled an attacking yorker that not only beat the batsman but reduced the stumps to smithereens, which were all the while missed by the fans. While attempting to defend the ball, the batter also lost his base, the traditional Bumrah.

Having sat out for six months with a back injury, the 30-year-old speed bowler returns to the field with great hopes. Since he made his first appearance for MI in 2013, Bumrah has emerged as their go-to bowler, collecting 165 wickets in 133 IPL matches.
As he emerged onto the practice ground, there was an aura of emotions. Batting coach Kieron Pollard couldn't help but display his emotion, hoisting Bumrah on his shoulders in a moment of pure ecstasy. Bumrah started warming up by emulating the left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner before switching gears and using his trademark fast bowling in spurts of short intervals during the net session.

MI team head coach Mahela Jayawardene confirmed Bumrah's fitness and said he will play in Monday's high-intensity match against RCB. It's a much-awaited return that has delighted audiences nationwide.

With India scheduled to tour England in June, the IPL would be an important test of fitness and form for Bumrah. The BCCI will want to monitor his workload during the tournament to keep him in the best possible shape for national service.
The MI-RCB match guarantees more fireworks, with Virat Kohli also to be in the thick of it. Kohli, who did, however, miss RCB's recent training session, is nevertheless an absolute certainty to start. The most absorbing subplot of the season may prove to be a fight between Kohli and Bumrah in the Wankhede lights.
