MS Dhoni once again reminded everyone of his legendary instincts on the cricket field with a stunning direct hit that resulted in the run-out of Abdul Samad during the IPL 2025 encounter between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Despite being 43, Dhoni’s quick reflexes and game awareness stood out as he produced a moment of brilliance in the field. The run-out came at a crucial phase of the match, reinforcing that Dhoni’s sharpness, both behind the stumps and in the field, remains unmatched even in the later stages of his career.
The pivotal moment unfolded in the 19th over of the innings when Matheesha Pathirana delivered a wide ball down the leg side. Seizing the opportunity, Rishabh Pant called for a quick single, but Abdul Samad hesitated briefly. That momentary pause proved costly, as Dhoni, who was alert and anticipating the play, reacted instantly. He collected the ball cleanly and fired a pinpoint throw to the non-striker’s end, catching Samad well short of the crease and handing CSK a breakthrough.

Lucknow Super Giants managed to post a total of 166 for 7 in their 20 overs during their clash with Chennai Super Kings. The innings saw a cautious start, with opener Aiden Markram falling early for 6. Mitchell Marsh added 30 runs but couldn’t convert it into a big knock. The standout performer was captain Rishabh Pant, who anchored the innings with a fluent 63 off 49 balls. Ayush Badoni (22) and Abdul Samad (20) chipped in with useful contributions, but LSG struggled to maintain momentum due to the regular fall of wickets at crucial intervals.
Chennai’s bowling unit executed their plans well, with Ravindra Jadeja and Matheesha Pathirana both picking up two wickets each. Jadeja dismissed Marsh and Badoni, while Pathirana struck late, removing Pant and Thakur in quick succession. Anshul Kamboj bowled economically and claimed the big wicket of Pooran, while Khaleel Ahmed struck early with Markram’s scalp. MS Dhoni also played a key role, effecting a sharp stumping and a brilliant run-out to dismiss Samad. Despite some resistance, LSG ended their innings with a below-par total on a helpful pitch.
