Lucknow Super Giants suffered their sixth loss of the season – and a big one – as they suffered a 54-run defeat to Mumbai Indians on Sunday. Pursuing a mammoth goal of 216 runs at the Wankhede Stadium, LSG were dismissed for 161 in 20 overs; yet even while the match was practically lost, LSG's Ravi Bishnoi did not miss a chance to celebrate when he hit Jasprit Bumrah – MI's top pacer and one of the finest bowlers in any format – over long on for a six.
Bumrah, who had previously set the record for most wickets in the history of MI, was in the midst of his spell with the game practically sealed when Bishnoi chose to go hard at him. A length delivery by Bumrah induced Bishnoi to heave it over long-on for an enormous six, spoiling Bumrah's chance of a five-wicket haul. When the ball flew into the stands, Bishnoi could be seen grinning from ear to ear, pumping his fists and showing off his strike in front of Bumrah.
The outburst was not ignored. Bumrah, always the calm character, smiled wryly at the showmanship of Bishnoi's celebration. But this too did not come to a close. In the dugout, Lucknow skipper Rishabh Pant had a chuckle and gestured towards Bishnoi.

But though Bishnoi had his moment of glory, Mumbai Indians had the evening in their pocket. Led by a scorching half-century by Suryakumar Yadav (54 off 28) and solid contributions by Ryan Rickelton, Naman Dhir, and debutant Corbin Bosch, MI put up an intimidating 215/7. Lucknow's run chase never really gained momentum as they lost early wickets, with Aiden Markram in the Powerplay and Rishabh Pant shortly afterwards, with both the batsmen not coming good at the critical moment.
Bishnoi's six off Bumrah, while ultimately to have no bearing on the result of the match, provided LSG supporters with a brief opportunity to rejoice. It more importantly served to demonstrate that cricket, at its core, is still a game of sudden excitement and carefree moments, regardless of the magnitude of the stakes. The Bishnoi six clip and his mockingly taunting gesture soon went viral on social media, and the fans just adored the exuberance and spirit displayed. Amidst a tournament replete with pressure and intensity, such moments serve as a soothing reminder of the reasons the IPL is cherished by millions of people across the globe.
