Star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is known for his unorthodox bowling action, one that has intrigued cricket fans and caught the attention of budding cricketers across the nation. However, it is rare to see a female amateur cricketer replicate the technique so precisely. Enter Myra Jain, a 9th grader from Delhi Public School (DPS) Bangalore East, who has taken the cricketing world by storm with her uncanny imitation of Bumrah’s iconic action.

Myra Jain's rise to fame at NICECricket Academy

Myra Jain first grabbed attention when she bowled at the New Innings Cricket Enterprise, commonly known as the NICECricket Academy. The young schoolgirl stunned onlookers with her near-perfect replication of Bumrah’s signature bowling style, from her smooth run-up to her precise follow-through. A video shared by her cricket club showcased Jain firing off a series of fiery yorkers, instantly drawing comparisons to the Indian fast-bowling star.

What sets Myra apart is her ability to emulate Bumrah’s hyperextension of the elbow, a movement that allows his arm to bend and snap back with a whipping effect during delivery. This rare talent has garnered widespread praise on social media, with viewers expressing excitement for her potential in women’s cricket. One comment read, “BCCI should notice her and groom her for Indian women’s cricket future. Best of luck,” while another said, “She could be among the best bowlers in world cricket if selected without politics.”

Bumrah's rest continues as Jain's star rises

Myra’s rise to viral fame came during a retro-themed video shoot at the academy, where she appeared in her school uniform, joking that she felt like “a 1978… old ancient Indian cricketer – any women’s cricketer.” Yet, her appearance did nothing to distract from her performance, as she delivered a stellar bowling display that wowed both her coaches and the online cricketing community.

Jain also showed flashes of promise with the bat, as glimpses of her batting were included in the viral video. She humbly admitted her batting performance came “surprisingly better” than expected, further showcasing her potential as an all-rounder.

As Myra Jain’s star rises, Jasprit Bumrah, her bowling idol, continues his break from international cricket. After a stellar performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he claimed 15 wickets, Bumrah was rested for India’s tour of Sri Lanka. Reports indicate that he is likely to miss the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh as well, with young fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Khaleel Ahmed in the running to take his place.
