After the Supreme Court on Wednesday accepted the board’s request for a tweak to the cooling-off period clause, Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah now have BCCI time period two. However, Ganguly may potentially be in line for a role with considerably more responsibility. According to sources within the BCCI, the former Indian captain may run for ICC chairman in November.
The world’s best cricket body is holding elections since Greg Barkley’s term as incumbent is about to expire. Barkley had indicated his desire to continue for a further two years during the annual convention in Birmingham. At the Birmingham conference, the process for choosing the next chief was decided.
The election of the chairman no longer requires a two-thirds majority. According to a recent proposal, the contestant who receives 51% of the votes will win. The candidate just requires nine votes from the directors in a 16-member board to be elected.
Ganguly will vacate the BCCI seat if he succeeds in getting the votes. The current BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, is likely to fill that position, and Arun Dhumal will take over as secretary.
According to information obtained by NDTV, many associations support Shah’s appointment as BCCI’s chief executive.

Ganguly would become the fifth Indian to hold the position of ICC chairman if he were to win the election. N Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar held the position of ICC chairman before him.
When the ICC president position was the top chair, Jagmohan Dalmiya and Sharad Pawar held it.
