Australia Women claimed another big win in the crucial Group A match at Sharjah. On Tuesday (October 8) night, Australia Women beat New Zealand Women by 60 runs.

After Australia Women chose to bat first, they scored 148/8 in 20 overs. In reply, New Zealand Women were all out for 88 runs in 19.2 overs.

Australia managed a great start

Australian openers provided a strong start as the captain Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney set a 41-run partnership. In the first six overs, the Australian team scored 43/1. After Healy was dismissed for 26 runs off 20 balls, Mooney had another 45-run partnership with Ellyse Perry for the second wicket.

Kerr was the star in the second half of the first innings

While Mooney was dismissed after scoring 40 off 32 balls, Perry was dismissed for 30 off 24 balls. The Australian team completely struggled since Perry’s dismissal, as only Phoebe Litchfield (18) was the other batter to reach the double-digit score in that innings.

Amelia Kerr was the star among the New Zealand bowlers. After dismissing both the set batters Mooney and Perry, Kerr took two more wickets and finished with the bowling figures of 4-0-26-4. Also, Rosemary Mair (2/22) and Brooke Halliday (2/16) took two wickets each.

White Ferns started slowly

New Zealand had a slow start as they scored 29/1 at the end of the powerplay. Although they hit three fours in the powerplay, they also recorded 18 dot balls in the powerplay.

Collapsed under pressure

While the slow batting put the White Ferns under immense pressure, they lost wickets quickly in the second half of the chasing.

Only Suzie Bates (20), Amelia Kerr (29), and Lea Tahuhu (11) managed to reach double-digit scores in New Zealand innings.

Among the Aussie bowlers, Megan Schutt (3/3) and Annabel Sutherland (3/21) took three wickets each. Meanwhile, Sophie Molineux (2/15) picked up two wickets, and Georgia Wareham (1/21) and Tahila McGrath (1/4) had one wicket each.
