With the help of strong batting performances by the openers and the captain against Sri Lanka Women, India Women set the highest total in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024.

India Women captain Harmanpreet Kaur chose to bat first after winning the toss at Dubai. At the end of 20 overs, India Women scored 172/3 in 20 overs. 

Openers set a 98-run partnership

India Women openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma provided a solid start for India Women. After scoring 41/0 in the powerplay, their strong batting continued till the 13th over. They had a 98-run opening partnership before they were dismissed in back-to-back deliveries. It was India’s third-highest opening partnership and fourth-highest partnership for any wicket in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup history.

Mandhana scored 50; Verma scored 43 

After completing her 36-ball 50 runs, Mandhana was dismissed on 50 runs off 38 balls through a run out. The left-handed opening batter hit four fours and one six in that innings. 

On the very next delivery of Mandhana’s wicket, opener Shafali Verma was dismissed by the Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu. Verma scored 43 off 40 balls with four fours. 

Harmanpreet Kaur scored 52 not out

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur handled the next step powerfully as she smashed a 27-ball half-century by scoring 52 not out off 27 balls with the help of eight fours and one six. In the last two balls, she hit two fours to complete her 14th WT20I 50+ runs.

The 172/3 was the second-highest total for India Women in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup history.
