South Africa Women climbed to the top of the Group B points table of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 after beating Bangladesh Women by seven wickets.

After Bangladesh Women chose to bat first, they scored 106/3 in 20 overs. South Africa Women chased the target in 17.2 overs after losing three wickets.

Bangladesh Women had a slow start

Although the opener Dilara Akter was dismissed for a two-ball duck by Marizanne Kapp, another opener Shathi Rani and Sobhana Mostary handled the powerplay slowly. Bangladesh Women scored 21/1 at the end of the powerplay.

After the 36-run partnership for the second wicket, Rani was out for 19 runs as Annerie Dercksen provided that breakthrough.

Mostary and Sultana played too many balls

Mostary and captain Nigar Sultana had a 45-run partnership for the third wicket. However, their partnership also took many balls which faded their chance to score a challenging total. Before Nonkululeko Mlaba bowled Mostary, the Bangladesh batter scored 38 off 43 balls.

On the other hand, captain Sultana was not out on 32 runs off 38 balls.

Kapp and Mlaba were exceptional with the ball

Among the South African bowlers, Marizanne Kapp (4-0-10-1) and Nonkululeko Mlaba (4-0-11-1) were exceptional.

Brits and Bosch handled the chasing very well

In chasing, although the skipper Laura Wolvaardt was stumped early for seven runs, another opener Tazmin Brits and Anneke Bosch handled the early situation well. South Africa Women scored 36/1 at the end of the powerplay.

The second-wicket partnership added 53 runs before Bosch was dismissed for run-a-ball 25 runs. Fahima Khatun took the first two wickets. Soon, Ritu Moni dismissed Brits for 42 runs off 41 balls.

However, Marizanne Kapp (13 not out) and Chloe Tryon (14 not out) had no big problem reaching the target score with 16 balls remaining.

Bangladesh Women bowler Fahima Khatun had a bowling figures of 4-0-19-2
