South Africa Women thrashed Scotland Women by 80 runs in the Group B match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 at Dubai.

After South Africa Women chose to bat first, they scored 166/5 in 20 overs. In reply, Scotland Women were all out for only 86 runs.

Strong powerplay before the captain's dismissal

South African openers provided another good start. Captain Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits secured a 64-run partnership for the first wicket. In the powerplay, they scored 60/0. Captain Wolvaardt was dismissed after scoring 40 off 27 balls with the help of five fours and one six.

Brits and Kapp maintained a strong status

While the next batter Anneke Bosch struggled once again and was dismissed for 11 runs, Brits got good support from Marizanne Kapp. They had a 30-run partnership before Brits departed after scoring 43 off 35 balls with five fours and only six. 

Kapp also scored firing 43 off 24 balls with the help of six fours.

Among the Scottish bowlers, Rachel Slater (1/35), Kathryn Bryce (1/31), Olivia Bell (1/34), Katherine Fraser (1/15), and Darcey Carter (1/17).

No solid answer from Scottish batters

In reply, only Ailsa Lister (12) and Katherine Fraser (14) reached the double-digit scores along with the 11 extras. 

Among the South African bowlers, Nonkululeko Mlaba (3/12) got three wickets, while Chloe Tryon (2/22) and Nadine de Klerk (2/15) picked up two wickets each. 

South Africa Women climbed top of the points table

With this victory, South Africa Women climbed to the top of the Group B points table with four points in three matches with a strong net run-rate of 1.527. England Women also have four points in two fixtures, their net run-rate is 0.653. West Indies Women and Bangladesh Women are in the third and fourth places, respectively, with two points each. 

Meanwhile, by suffering three out of three defeats, Scotland Women became the first team in the tournament to be officially eliminated from the group stage.
