England Women delivered a dominant performance, thrashing Scotland Women by ten wickets in their Group B encounter at Sharjah in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Chasing a modest total of 109, the English openers made light work of the target, reaching it in just 10 overs. This win cements England’s place at the top of the Group B points table, having won all three matches so far.
Safe start for Scotland but struggle against English bowlers
After Scotland Women opted to bat first, openers Saskia Horley and Sarah Bryce provided a steady start, reaching 29/0 at the end of the powerplay. Horley was the first to depart after a 38-run partnership, dismissed for 13 by Nat Sciver-Brunt.
Wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Bryce fought to stabilize the innings but fell for 27 off 31 balls, stumped by Amy Jones off Sophie Ecclestone’s bowling. Captain Kathryn Bryce took charge with a determined 33 off 28 balls, including four boundaries, but received little support from the other end. Scotland Women finished with 109/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
England women’s bowlers dominate
Among the English bowlers, Sophie Ecclestone was outstanding, taking 2 wickets for just 13 runs in her four overs. Ecclestone's efforts, along with contributions from Nat Sciver-Brunt and Charlie Dean, kept the Scottish batters in check. Scotland’s innings was further dented as captain Kathryn Bryce’s resistance ended when she was bowled by Dean.
Alisa Lister provided a brief spark, hitting the only six for Scotland in the tournament, but was dismissed for 11, leaving Scotland with a sub-par total.

English openers make easy work of the chase
England’s opening duo of Maia Bouchier and Danni Wyatt-Hodge came out with attacking intent, and by the end of the powerplay, they had already reached 66/0. Both openers completed their half-centuries in style, with Wyatt-Hodge hitting 51* off 26 balls (seven boundaries) and Bouchier smashing 62* off 34 balls (12 boundaries). The English duo wrapped up the match in just 10 overs without losing a wicket, underlining their dominance.
This commanding win takes England Women to the top of Group B, with three wins from three matches and a net run rate of +1.716. South Africa Women, who have played four matches, also have six points but with a slightly lower net run rate of +1.382. Meanwhile, West Indies Women, with four points from three matches and a net run rate of +1.708, must secure a victory in their upcoming match against England Women to keep their hopes alive for a semi-final berth.
