Australia Women registered a commanding win against New Zealand Women in their crucial Group A clash, securing a 60-run victory in Sharjah on Tuesday (October 8). After setting a target of 149, Australia bowled out New Zealand for just 88 runs to consolidate their position in the tournament.
Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney set the tone for Australia
The Australian innings got off to a strong start as captain Alyssa Healy (26 off 20) and Beth Mooney (40 off 32) led the charge with a 41-run opening stand. Healy’s aggressive approach and Mooney’s steady knock set the foundation for the team. Ellyse Perry chipped in with 30 off 24, helping Australia reach a competitive total of 148/8 in their 20 overs.
Amelia Kerr’s magic keeps Australia in check
New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr was the standout bowler, taking 4/26 and single-handedly keeping the Aussies from posting an even bigger total. Her brilliant bowling saw her dismiss key players Mooney and Perry, and she added two more wickets to complete her 4-wicket haul. Rosemary Mair (2/22) and Brooke Halliday (2/16) supported Kerr with crucial breakthroughs.
