South Africa registered a comfortable 7-wicket win over Bangladesh in the 16th match of the ongoing ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024. With this win, South Africa still have hopes to qualify for the semi-final whereas Bangladesh have eliminated from the tournament as well.
In that Group B match in Dubai, Bangladesh Women's captain Nigar Sultana Joty chose to bat first after winning the toss. While Bangladesh Women could only manage 106 runs in their allotted 20 overs, South Africa Women chased down the target in 17.2 overs after losing three wickets.
Sobhana Mostary and Nigar Sultana played steady knocks in Bangladesh innings
Bangladesh got off to a slow start with the opener Dilara Akter getting out for a duck. Shathi Rani scored a 30-ball 19. However, Sobhana Mostary (38) and Nigar Sultana Joty (32) steadied the ship in the middle with a 45-run stand. Their slow but steady knock helped them reach the three-figure mark.
While claiming one wicket each, Marizanne Kapp started the innings with a dismissal as well. Later on, all the other bowlers bowled with proper line and length and restricted Bangladesh to a below-par total as well. Dercksen and Mlaba also picked up 1 wicket each.
While chasing, South Africa openers Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits got off to a flying start. While Laura got out for a mere 7, Brits steadied the ship with Anneke Bosch. Later, Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon too scored well. Brits top-scored with 42 off 41 with 5 fours. They reached the target comfortably in 17.2 overs.
