West Indies dominate with bat and ball
West Indies Women, after opting to field first, put in a disciplined bowling performance to restrict England to 141/7 in their 20 overs. Afy Fletcher led the bowling attack with figures of 3/21, while captain Hayley Mathews chipped in with two crucial wickets.
In reply, the West Indies openers Hayley Mathews and Qiana Joseph delivered a stunning century partnership, setting up a solid foundation. Joseph smashed 52 off 38 balls, while Mathews contributed an equally impressive 50 off 38 balls. England struggle despite Sciver-Brunt’s heroics
England Women had a shaky start after losing three quick wickets, including opener Maia Bouchier and Alice Capsey, who failed to build momentum. Nat Sciver-Brunt stood tall with an unbeaten 57 off 50 balls, but lacked support from the rest of the lineup. Captain Heather Knight’s unfortunate injury also hampered their progress, forcing her to retire hurt after a brief but effective 21-run cameo. Despite Sciver-Brunt’s efforts, the team could not post a more challenging target, which eventually led to their defeat.
West Indies finish Group B on top, England knocked out
The win propelled West Indies Women to the top of Group B, where they finished with six points, equal to South Africa and England. However, West Indies qualified as group leaders thanks to their superior net run rate. England, despite being unbeaten before this match, found themselves out of the tournament due to this defeat. South Africa Women, who also finished with six points, advanced to the semifinals as runners-up of Group B.
