West Indies Women claimed a crucial eight-wicket win against Bangladesh Women in their fast chasing at the Group B match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
After choosing to field first, West Indies Women restricted Bangladesh Women to 103/8 in 20 overs. West Indies Women chased down the target in 12.5 overs. The speedy chasing helped the Caribbean team to climb to the top of the Group B points table with four points after three matches with a net run rate of 1.708.
Bangladesh Women openers Dilara Akter (19) and Shathi Rani (9) were dismissed in the powerplay where they scored 33 runs.
Sobhana Mostary and captain Nigar Sultana set up a strong partnership for the third wicket, which set the dream for Bangladesh to set up a challenging first innings total. They added a 40-run partnership for the third wicket before Karishma Ramharack dismissed Mostary for 16 runs.
After Mostary’s dismissal, Sultana didn’t get any support from the other end.

Off-spinner Karishma Ramharack dominated in the first innings. She dismissed the first three batters of Bangladesh's innings as she took the wickets of Dilara Akter, Shathi Rani, and Sobhana Mostary. Later, she also dismissed Ritu Moni for 10 runs. Ramharack ended with the bowling figures of 4-0-17-4.
Sultana’s hard-fought 39 off 44 balls ultimately helped Bangladesh Women to cross 100 runs and ended the first innings at 103/8 in 20 overs.
Among the other Caribbean bowlers, Afy Fletcher (2/25) got two wickets and Hayley Mathews (1/19) had one wicket.
In reply, West Indies Women started strongly, as the skipper Hayley Matthews dominated with her opening partner Stafanie Taylor to put 48/0 at the end of the powerplay. After producing the 52-run opening partnership, Matthews was bowled by Marufa Akter on 34 off 22 balls (six fours).
Taylor was struggling to run and decided to retire hurt after scoring 27 off 29 balls with three fours.
Shemaine Campbelle scored 21 off 16 balls before she was stumped out. Deandra Dottin ended the game quickly after scoring 19 not out off just seven balls (one four and two sixes).
