The Champions Trophy 2025 will start on February 19 in Pakistan, with some matches also being held in Dubai. Before this big event, India will play a three-match ODI series against England from February 6 to February 12. This series is important for India to test their team and decide the best combination. The team selectors are looking at players who are in good form and can perform well in key matches.
Reports say the team for the Champions Trophy will be mostly similar to the one from the World Cup 2023. But the selectors are also considering new players who have done well recently. One such player is Yashasvi Jaiswal. He has performed well in T20 and Test matches for India. Even though he has not played an ODI yet, his performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 was excellent. He scored 391 runs, the most by any Indian player in the series.

In the T20 World Cup 2024, Jaiswal was picked as a backup opener over Shubman Gill. However, he didn’t get a chance to play because Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opened the batting. Shubman Gill’s recent form has been disappointing, which might give Jaiswal an opportunity.
Consideration for the England Series and Champions Trophy
With Rohit Sharma leading the team, the management is thinking about using Jaiswal as a left-handed opener. Pairing him with Rohit, who is a right-hander, could make the batting stronger and more balanced.
The England series will be a chance for the selectors and team management to see which players are ready for the Champions Trophy. Jaiswal’s recent performances and talent have made him a strong option for India’s ODI team. Whether he gets selected or not will depend on how the team plans to prepare for the big tournament.
