India's star batter Yashasvi Jaiswal is all set for the upcoming big home season. He also revealed how the newly-appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir helped India play a fearless brand of cricket as well. He also said that the team received a lot of backing from Head Coach Gambhir during his first series as coach in Sri Lanka. Jaiswal is ready to make full use of the Duleep Trophy season to hone his skills for India's upcoming Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand as well.

"He really backed us saying just go out and play freely" - Yashasvi Jaiswal

"Yes, I have spoken with him during the Sri Lanka series. He really backed us saying just go out and play freely and enjoy the game and we will be with you. It gives us a lot of confidence and helps us to play fearlessly," Jaiswal told PTI.

However, Yashasvi Jaiswal is on course to seal his place as India's Test and T20I opener, although he is yet to make his debut in the ODI team. Jaiswal also realised the importance of being consistent and upgrading his skills as well. He also felt that domestic tournaments like the Duleep Trophy and Irani Trophy help to prepare well for international matches.

"I try to remain in my zone and contribute to the team's winning cause" - Yashasvi Jaiswal

"I am working hard at nets ahead, first for the Duleep Trophy and then for the Bangladesh series. It's not about setting personal goals, as you know in cricket you have to be consistent and keep working on your skills. Domestic tournaments like Duleep Trophy and Irani Trophy are very important games and it gives me a lot of confidence and helps me prepare for those (international) games," he said.

"I try to remain in my zone and contribute to the team's winning cause. You get to learn a lot of things in tournaments like Duleep Trophy and it is very good for you to play such intense games ahead of a Test series," he concluded.

Jaiswal had a great Test series against England as he became only the 2nd Indian batter after Sunil Gavaskar to score 700-plus runs in a single series as well. He also smashed over 1000 Test runs within 16 innings and became the 2nd fastest Indian after Vinod Kambli, who achieved this feat in 14 innings as well.
