In the second half of this year, the renowned Edgbaston Stadium will be the stage for the grand launch of the World Championship of Legends (WCL). This event is set to mark a new chapter in cricketing history, featuring international icons making their debut in a legends tournament.
Among the stars gracing this event are Darren Sammy, Samit Patel, Ravi Bopara, Dhawal Kulkarni, Ben Cutting, Dale Steyn, Shoaib Malik, and Sarfaraz Ahmed. Additionally, legendary players like Aaron Finch, Brett Lee, Shahid Afridi, and Yuvraj Singh will add star power to the event.
This inaugural season promises a unique cricketing format with six teams representing cricketing powerhouses: South Africa, India, Pakistan, England, Australia, and the West Indies.
The WCL aims to bring a fresh and exciting format to the cricketing world. With six teams from top cricketing nations, the competition will be fierce and entertaining. Each team will be stacked with both newcomers and seasoned legends, ensuring a high level of play and thrilling matches for fans.
Darren Sammy, known for his leadership in West Indies cricket, joins the ranks alongside England’s versatile all-rounder Samit Patel, Ravi Bopara and India’s skilled fast bowler Dhawal Kulkarni.
Australia’s explosive Ben Cutting, South Africa’s legendary fast bowler Dale Steyn, and Pakistan’s seasoned campaigners Shoaib Malik and Sarfaraz Ahmed add further depth to their respective national lineup.
In addition to the debutants, the WCL will feature cricketing legends who have already left an indelible mark on the sport. Australia’s hard-hitting batsman, Finch, will look to dominate the opposition with his aggressive batting style. One of cricket’s fastest bowlers, Brett Lee, will thrill fans with his pace and fiery deliveries.
The flamboyant Pakistani all-rounder, Afridi, known for his explosive batting and leg-spin, remains a fan favorite. India’s iconic all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh, will bring his powerful hitting and left-arm spin to the tournament, adding to the excitement.

Dale Steyn, one of the most celebrated fast bowlers in cricket history, is thrilled to be part of the WCL.
He said, “I’m excited to be making my debut in a legends tournament. I’m hoping we can execute it rather successfully and I’m excited to resume my pace.”
The WCL will follow a structured format with group stage matches leading to semi-finals and a grand final. This structure ensures that every game counts, and fans will be treated to high-stakes cricket throughout the event.
While Edgbaston Stadium will host the pivotal group matches, semi-finals, and final, additional group stage matches are scheduled at various other grounds throughout Warwickshire. This distribution ensures a wider audience can experience the excitement of the WCL.
