As Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are preparing for their upcoming clash on Thursday, veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal aims for a milestone. He has been one of the key spinners for RR ever since he joined the side in 2022 as well, and he has a chance to reach a feat during the game against Delhi Capitals.

With one more wicket, Chahal will reach 50 scalps in the Royals’ jersey and he will become the fifth bowler from the franchise to reach the mark after Shane Watson (67), Siddarth Trivedi (65), Shane Warne (58), and James Faulkner (53) as well.

Yuzvendra Chahal plays a key role for RR

However, in 36 matches played between both sides so far, Rajasthan Royals lead with 21 wins as well. Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, have won in the remaining 15. In the previous edition, both teams met once during the group stage, where RR registered a comprehensive 57-run win as well.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals backed their talented youngster Riyan Parag for the sixth successive season and he has slowly evolved as a mature player now. In the 54 games of his first five seasons, Parag played the role of a finisher and averaged merely 16.22 at a strike rate of 123.97. However, only Washington Sundar boasted of a worse strike rate in positions 6,7 and 8 (among batters who have played at least 20 innings since Parag’s debut). But this season, he has batted up in the order.

Riyan Parag has been in sublime form

Meanwhile, Kumar Sangakarra, the Royals’ Director of Cricket, is hoping that the recent rise of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel could spur Parag on as well.

“He’s seen the huge jumps that Jaiswal and Jurel have made, and he’s got a hunger there now and an example to follow into the international side,” Sangakkara said ahead of Royals’ game against Delhi Capitals in Jaipur. “We have players who have a variety of ambitions, IPL being one of them. I think he has understood that how he performs here, leads up to it. Maturing, understanding his game more, taking on more responsibility is non-negotiable for him.”
