Yuzvendra Chahal, the crafty leg-spinner, etched his name in the annals of IPL history by becoming the first player to claim 200 wickets in the prestigious tournament. His remarkable feat was achieved during a clash between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Chahal’s moment of glory arrived with his dismissal of Mohammad Nabi, who offered a simple return catch to the leg-spinner. With this wicket, Chahal reached the milestone of 200 IPL scalps, marking a significant achievement in his illustrious career.

In the IPL’s 17-year history, Chahal stands atop the list of highest wicket-takers, having amassed 200 wickets in 153 matches. Dwayne Bravo and Piyush Chawla trail behind him, highlighting Chahal’s dominance in IPL bowling statistics.
Having represented Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for eight years, Chahal emerged as the franchise’s leading wicket-taker, surpassing the 100-wicket mark. However, RCB’s decision not to retain him ahead of the 2022 mega-auction paved the way for his stint with Rajasthan Royals.
Chahal’s move to RR proved to be a masterstroke as he delivered exceptional performances in the IPL 2022 season. Clinching the Purple Cap with 27 wickets in 17 matches, including a hat-trick and a five-wicket haul, Chahal played a pivotal role in RR’s journey to the final, where they finished as runners-up.
Chahal surpassed Shane Warne in a remarkable feat, becoming RR’s most successful spinner in IPL history. His consistency and ability to deliver under pressure have made him an invaluable asset to the franchise.
Warne, who led RR to the title in the inaugural IPL edition, took 57 wickets from 55 games at an average of 25.38 while Chahal had 59 scalps at a strike rate of 14.36 for the Royals in the cash-rich league before the start of the match against KKR. He attained the feat in his 37th match for RR.
Despite his departure from RCB, Chahal continued to shine in the IPL, showcasing his prowess with 13 wickets in the current season for RR. His stellar performances have reaffirmed his status as one of the premier spinners in the tournament.
