Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has joined the English domestic cricket team Northamptonshire. He started his journey for the new English domestic team with a dominant fifer.

In the ongoing English domestic cricket season, Chahal is serving for Northamptonshire in List A and first-class matches.

Northamptonshire are playing their last game in the Royal London One-Day Cup 2024 match against the hosts Kent. The 34-year-old Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal started his journey for Northamptonshire with this ongoing game. Interestingly, 24-year-old Indian opener Prithvi Shaw is also playing for Northamptonshire.

Yuzvendra Chahal's five-wicket haul destroyed Kent for only 82 runs

In his first game for Northamptonshire, Chahal bagged five wickets as Kent were bundled out for only 82 runs in 35.1 overs. The Indian leg-spinner completely dominated the first innings with bowling figures of 10-5-14-5.

In Group A of the Royal London One-Day Cup 2024, Northamptonshire are in eighth place with only two points, as they have won once and lost six matches.

Yuzvendra Chahal will play five more first-class matches

Apart from the ongoing Royal London One-Day Cup 2024 match, Chahal will also play for Northamptonshire in their last five County Championship fixtures. In the County Championship Division Two, Northamptonshire are in seventh place with 97 points after nine fixtures.

Northamptonshire’s head coach John Sadler is excited about adding Chahal to the squad.

Sadler officially stated, "Yuzvendra is another high-profile overseas player who brings with him a wealth of experience and some incredible skills. His record speaks for itself and his wicket-taking ability will add strength to our attack."

Last year, Chahal played for Kent, where the leg-spinner bagged nine wickets in two matches.

Although Chahal hasn’t played a Test match yet, he has played 72 ODIs and 80 T20Is for India. The leg-spinner has taken 121 ODI wickets and 96 T20I wickets.

In the meantime, Chahal has recorded 96 wickets in 35 first-class matches, 214 wickets in 137 List A games, and 354 wickets in 305 T20s. He is the only Indian bowler with 350 T20 wickets.
