While the International Cricket Council (ICC) is busy in search of a stable host nation for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, Zimbabwe has reportedly shown its interest in hosting this tournament.

Bangladesh is the original host nation for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The ICC has already released the complete schedule for this tournament. It will run between October 3 and 20, 2024.

However, the present unrest situation in Bangladesh has forced the ICC to think about an alternative host nation for the upcoming women’s T20 World Cup.

India was one of the strongest alternatives to organise the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already clarified its non-interest in hosting the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 due to its hosting rights for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.

Meanwhile, ESPNcricinfo has recently confirmed Zimbabwe’s interest in hosting the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Zimbabwe hosted ICC World Cup 2003

Zimbabwe was the co-host of the ICC World Cup 2003 along with South Africa and Kenya. Meanwhile, the African country successfully hosted the last two men’s ODI World Cup qualifiers (2018 and 2023).

In the near future, Zimbabwe will host two major tournaments. After co-hosting the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 along with Namibia, Zimbabwe will host the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 along with South Africa and Namibia.

Top Zimbabwe cricket venues

Zimbabwe has two strong cricket venues, and these are Harare Sports Club in Harare and Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. Harare Sports Club has recently installed floodlights.

Takashinga Sports Club and Bulawayo Athletic Club also organised some live-streaming matches during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023.

Talking about the weather, Zimbabwe can be a good option for the October tournament due to its early summer and minimal rain expectation.

The ICC is reportedly considering the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as an alternate host for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. However, Zimbabwe’s latest reported interest can create a new drama, as Zimbabwe generally attracts more cricket fans to the stadium than the UAE.
