The excitement is already in the air as the 2024 T20 World Cup is about to begin in USA & West Indies. The 9th edition will be exciting as 20 teams will participate in the tournament. Countries like the USA, Oman, Uganda & Papua New Guinea will be the debutants.
Apart from this, some players will play their first T20 World Cup. This piece discusses five players who will play their first T20 World Cup. The players mentioned in the list have the capabilities of a match winner keeping in mind their skills but it needs to be seen how they perform in their first-ever T20 World Cup. We take a look at these players :
The 26-year-old Kiwi pacer is an exciting talent who has looked in decent form in T20Is in 2024 claiming 7 wickets in 4 T20Is with an average of 17.29. He can swing the ball both ways and surprise the batters with quick bouncers and yorker-length deliveries.
The 27-year-old wicket-keeper batter has looked fine in the last year or so. The England International is capable of taking on the bowlers with his aggressive and fearless intent. The right-hander has performed well in different T20 Leagues.
He made his International debut against Pakistan in July 2021 and has so far scored 639 runs in 21 T20Is registering 2 centuries and 2 half centuries with a highest score of 119 and a strike rate of 166.
The 23-year-old has already made a big impression with his fearless and aggressive batting. The left-hander has been one of the brightest talents in Indian cricket. Jaiswal looked in fine form in the IPL.
The Mumbai batter has already showcased his talent on the International stage. The T20 World Cup will be his first ICC event. He has scored 502 runs in 17 T20Is with a strike rate of 161.9 scoring 1 century & 9 half centuries.
The young South African impressed everyone with his pace and aggression during the 2023 World Cup in India. The 23-year-old can be penetrative with his pace and swing. The 2024 T20 World Cup will be his first ICC T20 event. So far he has claimed 6 wickets in 4 T20Is with best bowling figures of 3/32.
Although the 22-year-old is in the travelling reserves for the T20 World Cup Fraser Mc Gurk is another young exciting sensation who has highlighted his powerful striking abilities.
The right-hander scored 330 runs in 9 IPL games with a strike rate of 234 in the recently concluded IPL. If he gets a chance to play in this T20 World Cup we might see something special from him. Mc Gurk is one of the future stars of Australian cricket.
