Between 2015 and 2019, the flashy opening hitter scored 978 runs in 17 matches, averaging 65.20 and striking out 95.97 times. So far, he has three half-centuries in ODI World Cups.
Sachin Tendulkar, the 2011 ODI World Cup winner, is tied with compatriot Rohit Sharma for the hundreds in history. Between 1992 and 2011, Tendulkar hammered six centuries in 44 innings in the ODI World Cups. In 45 ODI World Cup matches, the former right-handed hitter scored 2,278 runs at an average of 56.95 and a strike rate of 88.98. He also struck 15 fifties in the ICC 50-over World Cups, the most by any player in the tournament’s history.
Former Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Sangakkara is third on the list. Between 2003 and 2015, the southpaw recorded five hundreds in ODI World Cup history. Sangakkara scored 1,532 runs in 37 matches with a strike rate of 86.55 and an average of 56.74. He also has seven half-centuries in ODI World Cups to his name.
Ricky Ponting, the legendary Australian cricketer, is fourth on the list of most ODI World Cup hundreds. Between 1996 and 2011, Ponting smashed five three-number figures in ODI World Cups. The three-time ODI World Cup champion scored 1,743 runs in 46 matches, averaging 45.86 and striking at a strike rate of 79.95. Ponting also has six ODI World Cup fifties to his name.
Swashbuckling Australian hitter David Warner rounds out the top five. Between 2015 and 2019, the hard-hitting left-hander scored four centuries in ODI World Cups. In 18 matches, he has scored 992 runs at an average of 62 and a strike rate of 98.12. Warner was an essential player in Australia’s World Cup-winning side in 2015.
