India’s bowlers set the tone for victory with a disciplined performance, restricting Nepal to 230. Rohit Sharma (74) and Shubman Gill (67) then made sure there were no hiccups in the chase, helping India win by 10 wickets in the fifth match of Asia Cup 2023
India won the toss and elected to field. Nepal’s openers, Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh, got off to a good start, putting together 65 runs. However, Shardul Thakur drew the first blood for India by dismissing Bhurtel for 38 runs Nepal lost wickets in quick succession and were left at 101-4. Aasif Sheikh and Gulsan Jha put on a 31-run partnership for the fifth wicket, but Sheikh was dismissed for 58 by Siraj. Sompal Kami and Dipendra Singh Airee then added 50 runs for the seventh wicket, but Nepal was ultimately bowled out for 230 in 48.2 overs.

The second innings was interrupted by rain, and the target was revised to 145. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill made light work of the chase, putting on 147 runs for the first wicket to seal a comfortable victory for India. Rohit was named the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 74. He was in excellent touch throughout the innings, hitting six fours and five sixes. Gill also played a fine hand, scoring 67.
