The Indian Premier League (IPL) has established itself as one of the most competitive tournaments in sports. It has had a significant influence on the cricket game throughout time. With the growth of the IPL, batters have discovered new means to score runs, making the task of bowlers more challenging.
As the current season suggests, cricket fans have been treated to a slew of broken records, raising the bar for the game’s shortest format. As the name indicates, the IPL batters have had a significant role in forming such records. The following is a list of the top five batters who have scored the most runs in the last over of an IPL match.
CSK’s prime all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, holds this impeccable record of scoring the most runs in the 20th over of the Indian Premier League. On April 25 2021, RCB’s former medium-pacer, Harshal Patel, didn’t expect carnage from his last over by the Indian all-rounder.
Having a Batting Strike Rate (Bat SR) of 514.28, Jadeja hit five shots over the park and one boundary, as seven balls were being bowled in total, thanks to Patel’s one no-ball delivery. As the numbers suggest, it would take a vast tone for any batter to share or break this IPL record.
The latest entrant to this list is none other than the Caribbean all-rounder and batting powerhouse Romario Shepherd. This comes from the recent match-up between the Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, where the five-time champions were batting first.
Anrich Nortje of Delhi Capitals was given the ball with Shepherd on strike. With impressive shots over the park and splendid boundaries, Shepherd made 32 Runs off the last over with four sixes and two fours at a Bat SR of 533.33.
On April 9 2023, the cricketing fraternity witnessed the rise of the promising and impeccable Indian middle-order batter Rinku Singh. Having a long association with the Kolkata Knight Riders and being prominent for his fielding.
But, his batting prowess was noticed when he took his team off to a memorable victory when the winning equation was 29 runs off six balls. With the Gujarat Titans, Yash Dayal given the last over, Singh hit five consecutive sixes, with a single in the first ball, at a Bat SR of 600.00.

Shreyas Iyer currently captains the Kolkata Knight Riders but got a huge career kickstart from his former franchise, Delhi Capitals. On April 27, 2018, when the team was formerly called Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Iyer displayed his commendable calibre and aggressive approach with the bat when he faced Shivam Mavi from the KKR arsenal in the match’s first innings.
With over four sixes and one four, Iyer made a colossal 28 runs out of the KKR’s promising pace prodigy. The Bat SR stands at 466.66.
Hardik Pandya shares the spot of this tremendous batting record with Shreyas Iyer from the Mumbai Indians during the 2017 edition. When the former IPL franchise Rising Pune Supergiants pacer Ashok Dinda was given the final over, on-strike Hardik Pandya was up to display his blasting batting display.
With lofted long-on shorts and a helicopter shot, Pandya showed his batting side by hitting four sixes and one four at a Bat SR of 466.66.
