1. 262 – Punjab Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders, Kolkata, IPL 2024

The monumental chase was spearheaded by an electrifying innings from opener Jonny Bairstow, who showcased sheer brilliance with an unbeaten 108 off a mere 48 deliveries. Bairstow’s aggressive onslaught, adorned with eight fours and an astonishing nine towering sixes, provided Punjab Kings with the momentum and impetus required to conquer the formidable target.

In tandem with Bairstow’s heroics, Impact Player Prabhsimran Singh played a pivotal role, unleashing a blistering 54 off just 20 balls to set the tone early on. Their dynamic partnership laid the foundation for the Punjab Kings’ breathtaking triumph and left a lasting imprint on the annals of T20 cricket history.

Punjab Kings’ monumental total of 262-2 not only secured their victory but also stands tall as their highest innings in the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL). This astounding achievement symbolizes a remarkable turnaround for the franchise following a series of lackluster performances, solidifying their stature as formidable contenders in the T20 arena.

2. South Africa vs West Indies: Centurion, 2023

South Africa scripted history by successfully chasing down a monumental target of 259 runs against West Indies in Centurion. Led by Quinton De Kock’s explosive century, the Proteas exhibited sheer dominance, ultimately securing a thrilling victory and etching their name in the annals of T20 cricket.

Quinton De Kock led the South Africa innings, scoring 100 runs off 44 deliveries. De Kock’s early blitzkrieg saw South Africa score the highest in the powerplay, 102 runs. Reeza Hendricks ensured the momentum remained with the home team. He ended with 68 runs off 28 deliveries. 

Towards the end, Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram stitched a 43-run partnership and ensured that their side won with six wickets to spare. The six-wicket win allowed South Africa to square the three-match series 1-1. 

Earlier in the match, Johnson Charles powered West Indies to its highest T20I score with a 118-run knock from 44 deliveries.

3. Middlesex vs Surrey: The Oval, T20 Blast 2023

Middlesex scripted a fairy-tale comeback with the biggest successful run chase in Vitality Blast history, stunning Surrey with a sensational seven-wicket victory at The Oval. Will Jacks’ heroics and a collective team effort propelled Middlesex to an unforgettable triumph, showcasing the unpredictable and exhilarating nature of T20 cricket.

Will Jacks (96) fired five sixes in an over and put on a 177-run opening stand with Laurie Evans (85) inside 13 overs, as Surrey took control after losing the toss and being put into bat, setting Middlesex a massive target of 253.

Tom Helm, Martin Andersson and Ryan Higgins claimed two wickets each for the visitors as Surrey eventually made 252-7, their second 250+ total of the season, only for Stevie Eskinazi to get Middlesex’s reply off to a strong start. The Middlesex captain put on 90 with Joe Cracknell (36) for the first wicket before Tom Curran ran out the latter. Eskinazi made 73 from 39 balls before being removed by Chris Jordan.

4. Bulgaria vs Serbia: Sofia, 2022

Australia rewrote the record books with a historic run chase of 245 runs against New Zealand in Auckland. D’arcy Short’s stellar performance and David Warner’s explosive start paved the way for Australia’s remarkable victory, underscoring the sheer excitement and unpredictability inherent in the T20 format.

Martin Guptill’s 49-ball century was New Zealand’s fastest T20 ton, and the team’s total of 243 equalled the highest posted by the Black Caps. Guptill plundered nine sixes and six fours after New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat, supported by fellow opener Colin Munro, who made 76 off 33 balls.

Australia made a flying start in reply, with openers David Warner and D’arcy Short racing to 51 without loss after four overs. Warner’s half-century came off just 20 balls, and the partnership reached 121 before spinner Ish Sodhi bowled the Australian captain on 59. His departure did not slow down Short, who anchored the innings with 76 from 44 to earn the man-of-the-match award.
